Work While You Study

As a student visa holder, you can work up to 40 hours every fortnight (14 days) when your course or training at Stanley College is in session (as in the course schedule). You may work over 40 hours in a fortnight during scheduled course breaks. You cannot work until you have started your course. For more information relating to your permission to work under a student visa, please visit the Department of Home Affairs website.

It is important that your primary purpose in Australia whilst on a student visa is to study, and that any paid employment does not interfere with your studies.

Completing a course at Stanley College does not guarantee you a job or a migration outcome. If, upon graduation, you decide that you want to undertake further study or work in Australia, you will need to check whether your visa allows this or whether you need to apply for a new visa (again, visit www.homeaffairs.gov.au for more information).

Of course, many students do wish to work while they study. Doing so is a great way to discover further opportunities, to learn things that complement your formal studies, and to enjoy more your experience in Australia.

To help students wishing to find paid employment, Stanley College employs Employment Liaison Officers. These are usually people of who have succeeded as international students themselves, and understand the local employment market from personal experience. They care about your success, and can assist with such things as:

  • Discovering sites and forums that post job vacancies
  • Contacting potential employers
  • Writing résumés and cover letters
  • Coaching you in job interview techniques.

In the spirit of reconciliation, Stanley College acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders, past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
