Gain the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in the security industry. This course is suitable for students who are interested in obtaining the Security Officer License from the WA Police, which enables you to work as  Security Officer in Western Australia. You will learn to respond to security risk situations, protect yourself and others using basic defensive tactics and how to apply first aid.

Course Duration
Security Officer*:
This course is delivered over 2 weeks (80 scheduled course contact hours)

Security Officer + Crowd Controller Combined*:
This course is delivered over 3 weeks (112 scheduled course contact hours)

*Classes are rostered from Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 4.30pm

Cluster 1: CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations
Students must successfully complete the following units in order to complete their CPP20212 Certificate II in Security Operations:

  • CPPSEC2002A Follow workplace safety procedures in the security industry
  • CPPSEC2003B Work effectively in the security industry
  • CPPSEC2004B Respond to security risk situation
  • CPPSEC2005A Work as part of a security team
  • CPPSEC2006B Provide security services to clients
  • HLTFA311A  Apply First Aid
  • CPPSEC2011B Control access to and exit from premises
  • CPPSEC2014A Operate basic security equipment
  • CPPSEC2015A Patrol premises
  • CPPSEC2017A Protect self and others using basic defensive techniques
  • TLIE2007 Use communication systems

Cluster 2: Crowd Controller Pathway
To obtain employment as a Crowd Controller in licensed premises and places of entertainment, you may elect to complete the following 4 additional units:

  • CPPSEC2010A Protect safety of persons
  • CPPSEC2012A Monitor and control individual and crowd behaviour
  • CPPSEC3002A Manage conflict through negotiation
  • CPPSEC3013A Control persons using empty hand techniques

Recognition of Prior Learning / Work Experience
Recognition is available (on application) to students with prior skills, experience, knowledge or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training, in a related area. Recognition may reduce the duration of your studies.
Western Australian Police Licensing Services
Private security activities within Western Australia are governed by the Security and Related Activities (Control) Act 1996 and the Security and Related Activities (Control) Regulations 1997 managed by the Western Australian Police Licensing Services. To work as a Security Guard and / or Crowd Controller, you are required to obtain the relevant licences, with one requirement being that you have completed an approved training course with an approved training provider. Stanley College’s Certificate II in Security Operations is registered on the list of Security Training Providers approved by the Commissioner of Police. Licensing Update - Security Officer and Crowd Controller licence applicants - From 1 February 2017, due to amendments to the Security and Related Activities (Control) Regulations 1997, all applicants for Security Officer and/or Crowd Controller licences, must have successfully completed a written examination based on the content of their training course before submitting their application.

Completion of Australian Year 10 or equivalent

Students are also advised that whilst Stanley College has no pre-requisite requirements for entry to this course, in order to apply for a license with WA Police, students are required to be at least 18 years old.

*Applicants must obtain a National Police Clearance during the licencing application process
